Does a short pause really change a financial decision?

Personal Finance · Article FAQ

Detailed Explanation

It changes which system makes the decision. Impulse purchases and reactive trades are made fast and justified afterwards; the pause creates room for the justification to happen first, where it can fail. It will not correct a bad plan. Someone with no goals, no thresholds and no emergency fund will pause and then proceed, because there is nothing to check against. That is the honest limit of the technique: it is a trigger for a checklist you built in advance, and it is worth exactly as much as that checklist.
